Cephitinea obscurostrigella

Of the several tineids that look something like this, I would say that the best match for your moth is Cephitinea obscurostrigella, as seen here and here.

ID Question

I'm trying to sort out several similar examples in the Guide. How is this separated from Setomorpha rutella? BOLD images here look very similar especially sample USNMENT00656696. The only image I can find of Cephitinea obscurostrigella is the one at MPG.

That looks more like it. There aren't any in situ images yet in MPG for this one. Do you think this is a positive ID, and if so should I move it to Cephitinea obscurostrigella page? How do I move it to MPG?

C. obscurostrigella

I wouldn't consider it a positive ID unless I could dissect the moth, but it probably is the best sight ID that can be made on it; so yes, I would advise moving it to the C. obscurostrigella page. As to MPG, my understanding is that it has become inactive for the time being, such that nothing is being added to it at present.

MPG is not inactive

Just a little less active since I more or less retired :-)

Christi Yeager is working up to 20 hrs a week on it. She is a grad student at Miss. Ent. Museum and is doing a good job on the site. christi@ualberta.ca

Can you send me your photo of this moth without the watermark? I post underneath all the photos with the photographers name and can also add a link to a website if you have one? I see from the several other photos you have submitted, there is no watermark, so you probably already knew this, I just like to be repetitive! ha
