Western Conifer Seed Bug - Leptoglossus occidentalis

Western Conifer Seed Bug - Leptoglossus occidentalis
Syosset, Nassau County, New York, USA
February 18, 2015
Size: 2 cm, head to abdomen tip
I was sitting at my desk at about 9 pm, when I felt a tickle on my hand. This fellow was crawling on it! I've never seen an insect like this before. It was very slow, and did fly a short distance. My newbie sleuthing tells me this is a "helmeted squash bug". We don't grow squash, and I don't think my neighbors do, either. What do you think, entymologists extraordinaire? Squash bug?
EDIT: confirmed as Leptoglossus occidentalis, Western Conifer Seed Bug

My pleasure. Photo taken with my iPhone 6 - it has quite the camera, for a phone. I figured the fingernails also helped as a size reference - I'm glad they were clean :-)
