Can't tell you much from this picture.
It is possible that B. cardui would host on some thistles but only certain genera, I don't know what type of thistle this is, do you? Also, there are characters that just cannot be seen unless you're zoomed in 120X that I would need to confirm that genus. Aphid identification is extremely complicated.

 
Found on in our yard
on Cirsium vulgare (Bull Thistle). We also have a lot of old fruit trees - apple, plum, pear, cherry - and understand that this species uses both thistles and prunus species as hosts, which was one reason why we wondered about this as a possible ID. Also on the BC list and looked reasonably close to photos on the web, although we realise that's not necessarily reliable!

 
Yeah it fits.
They are heteroecious (alternate plant hosts) and those are their hosts. It does look like one, but aphids can be tricky sometimes. So its likely it is B. cardui but to be positive antennae and the cauda need to be looked at.
