Crane fly - Tipula colei - male - female

Crane fly - Tipula colei - Male Female
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
April 20, 2007
Size: 2 - 3 cm
Mating pair of my current crop of crane flies. I arrived at Tipula (Triplicitipula) colei as my guess. Fairly strong fliers, both male and female, which makes them difficult to image. During conjugatioin they were less mobile with the female basicly hanging passively during flight. She recovered soon after separation though.
