- - Octinodes megalops - Male
San Felipe Creek, Anza Borrego Desert, San Diego County, California, USA
June 9, 2014
Size: 20 mm

Moved, O. megalops
Looks conspecific with the MCZ type.

Moved from Octinodes.

Possible O. megalops Fall
this keys to O. megalops in Van Dyke (1932) but I'd prefer not to make that ID sound without comparative material. Unfortunately, the MCZ site is down now, so I cannot compare images of the holotype.

Octinodes megalops was described from Claremont, CA in Los Angeles County, so its presence in San Diego, Co. should not be a surprise. Still there are other described (and certainly undescribed) species from southern CA.

Thanks for the help so far, Blaine...
...if it were O. megalops, I see it would be new to the guide. Now that I know the trick, I will watch out more closely for this genus!

Moved
This is Octinodes (notice the 11-semented antennae; Euthysanius spp. have 12-segmented antennae).

I'll try to get a species name later...

Moved from Arboreal Click Beetles.

Ah - I did not know that trick!
I will look at some other specimens I have from Utah with that in mind, then.
Thanks.
