Flat fly

Flat fly
Teslin, Yukon Territory, Canada
August 1, 2014
Size: 5mm
A parasite in bird's plumage. Found particularly in hatch-year birds but sometimes in adults too. These guys crawl out of the feathering when banding birds and fly away, or go back into the feathering. I have no idea what they are really called but would like to know.
