Clear Mayfly Nymph - Epeorus vitreus
North Georgia County, Georgia, USA
June 1, 2014
Size: approx. 10mm
This clear mayfly nymph appears to be a blue winged olive nymph perhaps. Who can id? By the way, perhaps the best camouflage ever.

Epeorus vitreus
Hi Allen-

A mayfly body length is measured from the front of the head to the end of the abdomen, and does not include the length of its tails, so please revise your length estimate based on that info.

Given that its head appears to be as wide as its thorax, I believe it to be a very freshly molted Heptageniid of genus Epeorus, likely E. vitreus, as the brown streak on its thorax is consistent with that species.

Also, thank you for posting the photo showing both this mayfly nymph and the larger mayfly nymph you referred to as a Sulphur. It has served its intended purpose by allowing me to see their relative body lengths, so it has subsequently been frassed, as each BugGuide ID Request is supposed to show only a single bug.
