Size: about 1 in
Several 'tents' contained these caterpillars which had come out to feed on a warm winter day. All were on one Douglas fir tree about 20 feet high in a plantation of trees.

Right ID…
I have a Coast-Douglas Fir on the property, and have also seen these caterpillars. It's been mild in our area lately, which enables them to come out and feed.
