Several of these shrub-clambering beetles and larvae. Larvae were tearing apart caterpillars of presumed Noctuids.

Can we rule out Callisthenes semilaevis?
This seems to be the often reported species in the nearby counties and here. (I guess technically this is Calosoma too, depends on authority?).

 
It is a Crysostigma.
Some consider Chrysostigma a subgenus of Calosoma, some consider it a subgenus of Callisthenes. Like you suggested, it depends on the taxonomist. Currently, bg recognizes this as Callisthenes.
