Small Darkling beetle - Eleodes acuticauda

Small Darkling beetle - Eleodes acuticauda
Triunfo Creek Park (Pentachaeta Trail), Ventura County, California, USA
March 18, 2015
Never seen one this small before, almost half the size of the ones I normally see.

Moved

Moved tentatively
not entirely sure this isnt a Coelocnemis, but I cant see the typical golden setae under the hind tibiae.

Moved from ID Request.

I'm quite sure it had no golden setae
But I'll take more care to observe this next time (or not if it is Eleodes).

For future reference, what photograph views are needed to bring Eleodes and Coelocnemis to species? (Assuming they can be done from photographs) Does any other information (habitat, size, etc.) help in this respect?

reminds me of
but wait for an expert.
