Nice picture. Lol I typed in Caterpillar Walrus and it took me here! I have another type of caterpillar that looks like a walrus too (not yours), I will post it on BugGuide if I can't find an ID for it.

Would additional photos help
Would additional photos help with the identification of this creature? The color in the photo is very close to the color of the caterpillar, milk chocolate brown.

Having just looked this up in Wagner
I see he mentions TX has some other spp., so I would file this at the genus level for now. Very likely the same sp. as this recent post:

Cool!
Looks a lot like the
Banded Tussock Moth
but since it has no black lashes,
H. harrisi
seems the more likely ID. It's darker than any we have in the guide yet, though - I'll be interested to see what others think. Maybe there's another sp. in Texas.
