Chlaenius amoenus

Chlaenius amoenus
Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, Warren County, Virginia, USA
June 24, 2014
Size: 13.9
Pitfall trap in mesic woods, steep rocky slope above stream.
I believe this is C. amoenus. Bell(1) says that this species is most likely to be confused with abnormally small individuals of C. emarginatus. Conveniently, a few very small C. emarginatus were caught at the same trap site (the same 40-meter-square plot).
I've linked thumbnails to the small C. emarginatus under the pictures showing the labrum and pronotum characters.
