Mystery Longhorn Beetle - Carabus nemoralis
University Place, Pierce County, Washington, USA
March 29, 2015
Found in my garden while moving an old wood pile. Had to lighten the pictures up to see, as it was a very dark day, and it's difficult to properly photograph something black when it's dark. The beetles are very black with truly brilliant color. One was turquoise and the other one was brilliant blue changing to violet, as it moved. They were very quick, and very much wanted to be under something. Also gold "pin striping" between the head and the thorax, and the thorax and abdomen, less brilliant than the color, but certainly noticeable.
