Psammoecus trimaculatus Morschulsky - Psammoecus trimaculatus - male

Psammoecus trimaculatus Morschulsky - Psammoecus trimaculatus - Male
Wellington, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
March 2, 2015
Size: 2.5mm
This is a new hemisphere record for this widely distributed Asian species, previously recorded from Japan, Madagascar, Nepal, India, and Bhutan. Takahiro Yoshida, who is publishing on the Japanese fauna, confirmed my identification. Vince Golia collected this specimen at light, as well as from Archbold Biological Station, in Highlands Co. Paul Skelley just collected it in the Withlacoochee State Forest, in Hernando Co. Its distribution suggests it has been in Florida for some time and is widely distributed in the southern half of the state. According to Yoshida and Michael Karner, also working on Psammoecus, my record of P. trimaculatus from Brazil probably refers to a different species.

New genus for me!
I suppose it can be expected to show up in Ecuador then if it's not here already. I'll get a folder ready for it in my taxonomic tree.

Another species
has been recorded from Brazil.

neat, thanks
