Loxostege immerens
I think this is Loxostege immerens, a new species for the guide. Although I can't see a pattern very well on this moth, what I do see matches immerens. See BOLD database here, and the MPG species page here.

Also, the only similar species I see, Loxostege annaphilalis and Pogonogenys proximalis, both have major issues, so that I feel I can confidently say that neither is the correct species. (both appear to have narrower wings; annaphilalis appears to be much light with a brown marking on the FW; and Pogonogenys proximalis has definite white markings on the FW).

I have collected this species north of here in SLO County in March.
