Aphilanthops hispidus, Digger Wasp - Aphilanthops hispidus

Aphilanthops hispidus, Digger Wasp - Aphilanthops hispidus
North Algodones Dunes, about 2500 feet west of N 33.093667 W -115.2525, Imperial County, California, USA
November 18, 2014
Identified by Dr. Lynn S. Kimsey, director of the Bohart Museum of Entomology and professor of entomology at the U. C., Davis. "Nectaring" on Eriogonum deserticola. Unlike most Aphilanthops, who supply their nests with ant queens, these wasps provision their nests with bees, often honeybees, that the young feed on.
