Sap-feeding Beetle - Epuraea rufa

Sap-feeding Beetle - Epuraea rufa
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
April 18, 2007
Size: ~ 5 mm
Found this in the rearing container beneath some old polypore fungus.

Moved
Moved from Epuraea helvola.

Moved
Moved from Omosita helvola. I don't think "Omosita helvola" is a valid species ... Coleoptera Checklist and Nearctica list two Omosita, both of which are already in the guide. I would also check American Beetles, but I don't have it on hand at the moment. "cf. helvola" refers to Epuraea helvola Erichson.

Moved from Epuraea.

E. rufa
...probably

It is worth noting
that Nitidulidae specialist Andrew Cline rarely attempts to ID this genus without voucher in hand. What leads you to suspect this is E. rufa?

I agree...
...with Mr Cline's position. And yours :-]
[added 12/13/08] thanx for admonishing me! now i think it's the same sp. as others IDed as "cf. helvola"

Great detail, Stephen
!

Thanks!
It sat very still for a few minutes. Next, it was crawling all over the place.
