Bee-mimic Robber Fly - Laphria sackeni Dry Canyon/Cold Creek, Calabasas, Los Angeles County, California, USA April 3, 2015 Size: 1 inch
This robber fly was interesting to watch -- its mimicry extended to briefly "pretending" to forage in black mustard blossoms before quickly finding a perch from which to wait for prey. It would bumble around like a bee, but the landing was so sudden and sure that you knew it was a robber fly. They're so awesome.
