Konrad are you certain on the date and locale since it would be unlikely for a Clouded skipper to occur this early in VA?

Hi all,
I have checked the info embedded in my photo which gives the 27th April, 2012 as the date when it was taken. That concurs with my diary/calender according to which I was visiting the USA in April and was in Virginia on that day (however, on that day I was not in Luray but in the vicinity of Lexington, Va.).

P.S. Other skippers that I have photographed on this trip are Paones zabulon (April 19th + 20th, 2012), Epargyreus clarus (April 17th, 2012), Erynnis icelus (April 18th, 2012) and Erynnis martialis (April 16th, 2012).

Moved from Dusted Skipper. I agree with Cliff; this is definitely a Clouded, IMO. The forewing spot shapes and pattern are perfect for a female Clouded and unlike anything I've seen on Dusted. Additionally, Dusted should have a very noticeable white "eyebrow", which is lacking on Clouded and this bug.

This is very likely an Atrytonopsis hianna. Females of A. hianna and L. accius are almost impossible to differentiate from an image like this. One needs to view the underside hindwing. L. accius is generally a late summer immigrant into northern Virginia mountains, never in April. However, A. hianna is found in April.
