Dark High Intertidal Mite - Ameronothrus

Dark High Intertidal Mite - Ameronothrus
Sitka County, Alaska, USA
April 3, 2015
Quite a few of these (not all the linked images may necessarily be of the same individual, so I can unlike if that's better) were crawling around the high intertidal with a couple of distinctly larger Neomolgus littoralis (see photo with both for size comparison).

Oribatida: Ameronothrus
Hi Matt:

This is an Ameronothrus sp. They are very common in the intertidal and often gather together in large clumps, as you observed. I thought for sure I had previously identified Ameronothrus photos for Bugguide but there's no evidence of it! So here's the full classification in case it is needed -

Oribatida: Brachypylina: Ameronothroidea: Ameronothridae: Ameronothrus.

Cheers,
Heather

Thanks!
Thanks for the help with the id! I'll have to try and keep an eye out for them in the future and maybe get some better photos (intentional instead of incidental).

Neat!
Nice ID Heather!

If they're not the same individual...
...then they should be unlinked. They can be cross referenced with thumbnails in the Remarks section, if desired.
