This is a very tricky ID so, I'm not qualified and I'm not exactly sure, but you might want to look at the BugGuide ID info page, for links about the male cerci and other body parts on:

Argia damselfly
Not an expert; but I'd vote for Argia vivida (Vivid Dancer). Am using Manolis's "Dragonflies and Damselflies of California" and believe the pictures of the abdomen and thorax are more like vivida than agriodes.
