Here's a shot of one actually starting to pupate. I think I'll go back tomorrow and collect a few, and see what they turn into!

Collecting is probably your best bet.
An insect book I'm reading says only about 5% of immatures are tied to adult insects, so it's no wonder IDs are hard to come by. I'm guessing ladybird larvae and wouldn't be surprised at Asian, even though this doesn't look like the immatures I associate with them.

I shoot a lot at Fullerton Arboretum, and most of the ladybirds there are Convergent.
