A non-native woodwasp from Eurasia recently identified (2005) in upstate NY. Females looks similar to the native Sirex nitidus and S. cyaneus, however, those species infests Picea and Abies spp., respectively. Image taken in an overstocked red pine (Pinus resinosa) plantation.
