Kiss of death? - Aphidoletes

Kiss of death? - Aphidoletes
St. Albert, Alberta, Canada
August 3, 2014
Real small stuff, worm seems to be sucking the life out of what I think are aphids. Camera/lens combo is about 5x. The plant leaf looks to be a hollyhock.

You're more confident than I am.
:)

The photo at the Purdue site is misidentified
If you google Aphidoletes and look at the images that come up it becomes pretty obvious. Unfortunate as the misidentified image is one of the first images that comes up when you google Syrphid larva.

Looks like a Syrphid Fly larva
Many seem to eat aphids.

Or perhaps a Gall Midge

Interesting
I assumed it was the same as this Syrphid Fly Larva

I wonder if that critter is ID'd correctly.
Looking through the immature Syrphids in the Guide, we don't have any that are so uniformly (and brightly) orange.

We can agree that it's a Dipteran, I suppose. :)

Inadvertent duplicate
