Marshall and Buck write: "The only Central American species of this primarily tropical Old World/Australasian genus, P. angulata (Thomson), was probably introduced from the Afrotropical Region. It now occurs in many Central and South American countries and is associated with dung."(1)

Papp (1989) writes: "Its original range was probably all tropical Africa. Most of the specimens collected by my colleague DR. ANDRÁS DEMETER in Nigeria, were caught on baboon droppings. On the other hand, it seems not so abundant on dung of large ungulates. Consequently, it is possible that it was transported to South America (and later towards North America) by commerce, i.e. by slave-trader ships some hundreds of years ago."
