possibly A. egenoides, but I don't have a reference for separating the species right now. I may try and give a closer look at this when I have some more time.

A. egenoides tends to be darker and more unicolor
I believe. But I'm going to move this image back to the genus page for now just to be safe.

This moth belongs in the Subfamily Plusiinae. It is one of the types commonly called Loopers. There are quite a few species in California. One that caught my eye as a possibility was . From this "moving target" view it is hard to be sure of the lines. Not an ID past Subfamily.
