Maybe Orphulella pelidna? - Orphulella pelidna - Male
Pinellas County, Florida, USA
July 4, 2014
Didn't have any pix from above. Based on wing length, pattern, and color tone of what I can see, I thought it fit both Orphulella pelidna and Melanoplus propinquus. I can't tell if it has a spur throat.

has to be O. pelidna
Head is the wrong shape for Melanoplus, compare

Moved from ID Request.

In the Florida grasshopper book
the head of Melanoplus propinquus appears more slant-faced. It is more obvious from Bugguide's photos that it cannot be that.
