Praying Mantis with strange eyes - Litaneutria minor - male

Praying Mantis with strange eyes - Litaneutria minor - Male
Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 14, 2015
Size: 1"
The body was dark brown and some mottling. It was obviously very young, only about an inch long. I've seen many mantis in my lifetime but never one with these eyes. Please help ID.

Litaneutria? Wait for a mantid expert

Yes!!
I think you got it! I do believe it is a Litaneutria Minor, aka Agile Ground Mantis. Accordingly to further web search, they do spread to California and grow to be only 1.2". Thank you!!
