Ant-like Stone Beetle - Stenichnus

Ant-like Stone Beetle - Stenichnus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 19, 2007
Size: about 1.6 mm
This is a new family for me, playing a little catch-up with Tom Muray and Richard Lareau who have posted several each from this family.

I found a couple of this species along with thousands of beetles from at least 19 other beetle families (plus many other arthropods) by sifting through flotsam from a substantially swollen catchment basin after several days of nonstop heavy rains:

These beetles move more quickly than I had expected for some reason, although they did not try to fly as many beetles do in the light and heat of my light arena.
