Curated Specimen from the CAS - Pterodontia notomaculata - male

Curated Specimen from the CAS - Pterodontia notomaculata - Male
3 mi. north of Lone Pine, Inyo County, California, USA
July 15, 1962
Profile view. In addition to the sub-quadrate yellow-orange spots on the anterior corners of the metanotum, this species also typically has the anterior half of the mesopleuron yellow-orange as well. All other known nearctic species of Pterodontia have the thorax mostly black.

Note also the small, bristle-tipped antennae located very low on the head...characteristic of the genus.
