Curated Specimen from the CAS - Pterodontia notomaculata - male

Curated Specimen from the CAS - Pterodontia notomaculata - Male
3 mi. north of Lone Pine, Inyo County, California, USA
July 15, 1962
In addition to the large yellow-orange spots at the anterior corners of the mesonotum, P. notomaculata typically has the anterior half of the mesopleura yellow-orange as well...as clearly seen here.

Note also the unusual form and placement of the antennae here (near the bottom of the head), typical of the genus. The mouthparts in Pterodontia are obsolete (and virtually imperceptible in photos like these).
