Thanks!
yes, the underside confirms this is L. marmoratus. Notice the grooves on the hypomeron (the lateral, flared part of the prothorax). Those grooves are used for the reception of the front tarsi. They are present in some Lacon (incl. marmoratus) but are always absent in Danosoma.

Thanks for sticking with this
Thanks for sticking with this. Glad that feature showed up in the flash shot. That mark is not in the little diagram in Dillon and Dillon. Will check American Beetles.
This is another example of my specialty - a new species for a state in BG, but I didn't know what it was. Oh well.....

Moved
Moved from Danosoma.

how did you rule-out Lacon marmoratus from this image?
???

Sorry, I didn't realize that
Sorry, I didn't realize that there were these giant Lacons. It is quite punctate. I'll move it over.

sorry, I wasnt implying specfically it was L. marmoratus...
it could be either actually, the pic doesn't allow me to separate the two. Personally I think the color pattern is a better match for L. marmoratus, but an image of the underside of the prothorax should cinch it up. Did you save the specimen?

Go ahead and leave it at L. marmoratus for now though...

I'll try to get a ventral sho
I'll try to get a ventral shot posted later today.
