weevil - Coniatus splendidulus

weevil - Coniatus splendidulus
Mojave Desert, San Bernardino County, California, USA
April 20, 2015
Size: 3+ mm
I'm not 100% sure this beetle was from the Mojave, but that's my guess. I found it in my motel room in Lake Isabella (Kern County), on a book taken from my car, after driving all day from the Mojave to Lake Isabella (and making stops along the way). Most likely it ended up in my car while I was camping in Afton Canyon.

Coniatus splendidulus
Thanks Mike.

There was plenty of tamarisk at Afton Canyon, so that's probably where this came from, as I suspected.
