NEW GENUS - Pegomya - Eutrichota - Ames, Story County, Iowa, USA April 29, 2007 Size: 7.5 mm
Only the second anthomyiid genus IDed... tsk tsk buguiders!... this is a rather large genus in the Neartic, with McAlpine's listing 119 spp. This specimen came to my UV last night.

1. A1 not abbreviated; Scutellum w/ ventral hairs {Anthomyiinae: Anthomyiini}
2. Middle of Proepisternum & Katepimeron w/o hairs
3. 3 postsutural DC bristles
4. lower calypter not extending beyond upper
5. Head/thorax/abdomen not whitish gray w/ 3 stripes
6. proboscis not very long/slender/tubular
7. Eyes bare
8. Head not noticably small
9. Arsiat bare
10. Metatibia w/ 2 posterodorsal preapical bristles
11. Mesotibia w/o a preapical anteroventral bristle
12. C vein ventrally with setulae near c cell; cruciate interfrontal bristles lacking.
