Identification
1. A1 not abbreviated; scutellum w/ ventral hairs (Anthomyiini)
2. Middle of proepisternum & katepimeron w/o hairs
3. 3 postsutural DC bristles
4. Lower calypter not extending beyond upper
5. Head/thorax/abdomen not whitish gray w/ 3 stripes
6. Proboscis not very long/slender/tubular
7. Eyes bare
8. Head not noticeably small
9. Arista bare
10. Metatibia w/2 posterodorsal preapical bristles
11. Mesotibia w/o a preapical anteroventral bristle
Food
Larvae of subgenus Pegomya mine in leaves, usually Chenopodiaceae and related families but occasionally composites and other families. Most larvae of subgenus Phoraea live in fungi.
