Identification
Redescribed in (1) with illustration of male gonostylus.
Range
Reported in (1) from MA, OH, VT, VA, DC.
Habitat
Several specimens examined in (1) were taken in light traps.
Remarks
Similar to the European S. hemerobioides (Scopoli), but that species has two apical lobes on the gonostylus. S. sciophila has three apical lobes. (1)
Falls in the Sciara hemerobioides group sensu Menzel & Mohrig (2000).
