. It is closely related to the lilac borer but flies very late in the season.

Thank you, John, according what William H. Taft wrote in one of the threads "P. dollii is an early season flyer throughout it range while V. scepsiformis flys from July to October", I would assume that my couple is Vitacea scepsiformis. I realize that the photo itself can't tell the difference.
