The first Pipevine swallowtail cats of the season!!! - Battus philenor
New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas, USA
May 11, 2015
After being mysteriously absent last year, the Pipevine swallowtails have returned this year! I am so happy as I really missed seeing them last year. Here are some of the first caterpillars of the year! I was so ecstatic to see these when I turned the leaf over this morning. The fact that they have returned this year makes me even more curious as to why they were so absent last year-we did not see one single caterpillar and like 1 or two adults the whole summer-so if anyone has any ideas, please don't hesitate to share them!
