Violet dragonfly - Orthemis ferruginea

Violet dragonfly - Orthemis ferruginea
Lake Corpus Christi, San Patricio County, Texas, USA
April 13, 2007
A very tricky model, since it was busy flirting with other beautiful violet dragonflies.

Appears to be Roseate Skimmer (Orthemis ferruginea). Can someone verify?

Roseate Skimmer
Yes indeed, this is a beautiful adult male Roseate Skimmer, Orthemis ferruginea. I wonder what happened to cause that kink in the tip of his abdomen? By the way, the "flirting" was probably competition with other males. The females of this species look quite different - they're a yellowish brown with white stripes/patches on the thorax.
