Boxelder Aphids? - Periphyllus

Are these boxelder aphids? If not, what are they please? They were on Acer negundo and were being tended by ants.
I'd also appreciate an ID suggestion for the ants.
Sorry the images are so blurred. Leaves shaded the stem and these were the best images I got.
I returned to the same stem this morning (May,17) and got a sharper image - please see the third image.
