Explanation of Names
Hemerobius humulinus Linnaeus 1758
from the genus Humulus ('hop plant or hops') + -īnus ('of or pertaining to')
from the New Latin humulus, derived from the Old Norse humli, Old English hymele, or Middle Low German homele ('hop plant')
Identification
Within the eastern range (particularly southeastern), the broad pale stripe on the thorax and lack of pigmented pterostigmas separate it from the other widespread species, H. stigma.(1)

Caution: many (!) other species have a yellowish stripe down the thorax, particularly in the west where the genus is most diverse.
