Interesting
At first, I thought these flies all had red "butts", i.e. back part of the abdomen. Then, I thought all had solid coloration. Now, you have one with a pattern. A dorsal shot would be nice. Wing shot is very helpful, but I find the two others rather cryptic.

When you catch them in a pan trap, do they come out dead? I ask because the pose on this one is pretty good.

A pan trap is a yellow or white bowl of soapy water that insects are attracted to and drown in... quite effective; I have a pile of a few dozen Toxomerus... I'll try and get a better shot as per your request. Cheers
