7968 - Litodonta hydromeli
Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma, USA
April 22, 2007
It came to UV light near pond in wooded area of a flood plain.
The best match I can find is here: MPG . The new species page and comments here in BG.net also was a great help.

Fantastik Foto!
What a great photo! It captures all the nuances of color often lost even in the best of pinned specimens. Unfortunately, inexpensive cameras such as mine, or my own poor technique, often manage to lose the fine details of moth maculation that appear so vividly in this photo.

Thanks
Bob, Thanks for compliment on the photo. I will submit another taken a couple of days later. In a nutshell, I am currently using the strange concoction of a Nikon D200, 50 mm 1.8 lens and the Nikon 5T and 6T magnification filters. All this is over a 1.4x teleconverter (left on when switching back and forth from the telephoto). Manual mode with continuous focussing at 1/250s at f22. The flash is pointed straight up with a large Lumiquest Ultrasoft diffuser. The focus is always good but I have to take several shots at various flash levels to get a decent exposure.
