Feeding T. rubida - Triatoma rubida - male

Feeding T. rubida - Triatoma rubida - Male
Tucson, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Pima County, Arizona, USA
May 27, 2015
Size: 11mm
I introduced a Mediterranean house gecko, Hemidactylus turcicus, into the container to see if the T. rubida would feed from the blood of a poikilotherm like Reyes-Lugo, et al. reported in their 2011 paper "The association of Triatoma maculata (Ericsson 1848) with the gecko Thecadactylus rapicauda (Houttuyn 1782) (Reptilia: Squamata: Gekkonidae): a strategy of domiciliation of the Chagas disease peridomestic vector in Venezuela. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3614233/)
T. rubida began feeding immediately upon introduction and fed throughout the night before being eaten by the Gecko early the morning of May 28, 2015.
