Mayfly - Maccaffertium terminatum - male

Mayfly - Maccaffertium terminatum - Male
Rock Bridge State Park - High Ridge Trail, Boone County, Missouri, USA
May 31, 2015
Can this Mayfly be identified to species? Also, this is a dumb question, but what, if any, is the significance of the solid white eyes? They all don't have white eyes, or is this just a phase of its life cycle when they turn white?

Much Thanks!

Maccaffertium terminatum
Hi Jon-

I believe this male imago to be Maccaffertium terminatum. As to your question about eye color, under certain light conditions the eyes of a genus Maccaffertium male imago will floresce, which can change their appearance from black to a brilliant white.

Much Thanks Roger!
