Machimus formosus, male (dark individual).
This is a fabulous series beetledude63! Here is an interesting paper that presents more info on the burrow - inhabiting Machimus in the US:
Bullington & Beck, (1991 - Ann.Ent.Soc.Amer.84:590-5). This paper covers these two flies plus a related new species (M. polyphemi), which inhabits tortoise burrows in Florida. A key to these three Machimus is included in the paper.
