series! I have seen similar pupal casings in mud dauber cells, but never knew what they were.

 
The muddauber situation is very different
since the larvae feed on spiders, they do not end up as endoparasites inside of host pupae. The pupal skins they shed are their own

This one I found laying in the sand under a Mesquite tree. I scooped him up with some sand (which is also how I ended up with my pet antlion).
