Needless to say, I was pretty excited to see this show up on the deck last night. And not only one, but two and possibly three of them. I know at least two because one was missing part of a leg. I kept this beetle in a container for a while as I took photos. I had another clear plastic container covering it and after a few minutes the beetle started making a noise, sort of light rasping sound which also vibrated the container although I did not see the beetle's wing covers move at all. Later, after I had released it to the plants below the deck, I heard the same sound from this beetle.
