Small-headed Fly. - Pterodontia johnsoni

Small-headed Fly. - Pterodontia johnsoni
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
June 12, 2015
Size: 4mm
This was found by someone who gave it to a neighbor, who was going to pin it, but given the brittle condition suggested I photograph it first. I took a few photos, but the pinning was not completely successful. Well, a few pieces remain. It is very small, with not much by way of markings. The thorax is blue gray the abdomen black, and the legs seem to have some yellow, and have pretty elaborate hooks and pads. Sorry about the dust, and lack of definitive angles. I may yet get better shots at...some parts. I am hoping ID will be possible. I will add more photos as I can.

The lighter color of the thorax is not showing well in the photos. It seemed visible by eye.

In photo 2 there is something below the wing. I know by definition diptera have two wings, but some species have pretty large membranous non-wing appendages.
