Giant Sawfly - Trichiosoma triangulum
in a rural area north of Bow, Skagit County, Washington, USA

I spotted this huge sawfly on a salmonberry bush at the edge of a clearing in the forest. Research showed me that there is a Giant Birch Sawfly, Trichiosoma triangulum. Might this be one? It appeared to be at least 30 mm long, but my eyes are out of calibration.
